Sheriff: One airlifted from Wayne County crash after colliding with embankment

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation of a personal injury accident that happened around 9:20 p.m. on Friday.

Deputies were called to Hydesville Road in the town of Palmyra after John Briggs Jr., 29, lost control of his vehicle crashing head-on into an embankment.

The vehicle overturned and Briggs had to be extricated by first responders.

Deputies say Briggs was transported by ambulance first, then airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital due to the extent of his injuries.

The crash was caused by Briggs traveling at an unsafe speed on Hydesville Road, according to investigators. The investigation into the crash is not complete and remains active.

Firefighters from East Palmyra and Marion assisted at the scene, as well as New York State Police, Macedon Town Ambulance, and Finger Lakes Ambulance.
