Infant dies after premature birth at Onondaga justice center: Staff knew woman was pregnant

The death of a premature baby has been reported at the Onondaga County Justice Center.

According to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, they’re investigating after a 35-year-old woman was found there on August 2 around 4:50 a.m. suffering from a medical emergency.

Staff at the center discovered she had given birth and was taken to Crouse Hospital where the infant was pronounced dead.

Staff were aware of the inmate’s pregnancy and she had been receiving care while at the facility.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted. The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Attorney General’s Office are both involved.

The woman is no longer being held at the facility.
