Gates Superintendent: Suspect in custody following social media threat at high school

The Gates Chili Central School District dismissed all summer school students and staff early and canceled activities following a social media threat.

Gates Schools Superintendent Christopher J. Dailey says a suspect is in custody and the lockdown has been completed.

All schools within the district were on lockout as police investigated the reported threat.

Police say they were alerted of the threat, specifically directed at the high school, around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27. They say the threat was not made by a student.

Students and staff were directed to remain inside the school with no one allowed in or out until the lockout was lifted, according to an update provided by News10 NBC in the early afternoon.
