An Ithaca man was arrested Wednesday after reportedly kicking another man in the head and fleeing arrest.
Ithaca Police were called to the 300 block of West State Street on July 20 for a report of two males fighting, said the department in a statement.
When police arrived, they report seeing one male on the ground while the other male suspect, identified as Devon D. Welch, 25, was reportedly kicking the other male in the head.
Officers say they stopped Welch and then interviewed him. He fled despite officers telling him to stop a number of times, says IPD. Welch fled on foot southeast through the city.
Welch was eventually apprehended and arrested in the 100 Block of East Green Street. Police say he took a “fighting stance” against officers and resisted arrest.
Three officers sustained injuries from the “conduct and actions taken by Devon Welch during this pursuit, according to IPD.
Welch was arrested on the following charges:
- Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd degree, a Class A misdeamneaor;
- Disorderly Conduct- 240.20sub.1- Violation.
The second male was reportedly identified by police but has yet to be interviewed.
The case is currently under investigation.
