The Syracuse Mets used a five-run eighth inning to defeat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 10-6, on Wednesday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Syracuse has now won the first two games of this six-game series.
The Mets entered the eighth trailing, 6-5. Mark Vientos tied the game with a bases-loaded walk, and Travis Blankenhorn followed that with a bases-clearing double to make it 9-6. Patrick Mazeika capped off the frame with a run-scoring single.
Khalil Lee had an RBI double earlier in the game, and Vientos smacked his 12th home run of the season. Quinn Brodey also had a run-scoring double, and Mazeika had an RBI single.
Connor Grey started on the mound and surrendered five runs over 3 2/3 innings. Rob Zastryzny allowed the only run in relief.
Syracuse will go for their third straight win on Thursday night. The first pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m.
