Last week it was reports of wind damage following severe thunderstorms in the Finger Lakes. On Wednesday, a hot and humid airmass brought thunderstorms with torrential rain for areas in Monroe, Ontario, Wayne, Yates, Seneca, and Cayuga counties.
Few of the storms that developed around the evening commute prompted severe thunderstorm warnings, but that didn’t mean they passed without leaving their mark.

The storms developed in the Rochester-area, near Lake Ontario, then dropped southeast before moving out of the area.
Shelf clouds like the one photographed above over Cayuga Lake in Seneca County were seen throughout the region as the storms approached.

Left behind was significant flooding on side roads where drainage was less readily available. The National Weather Service warned that it would be a possibility, as heavy rain turned into runoff that could not be handled by existing roadside drainage.
