It took 13 innings, but the New York Yankees finally defeated the Chicago Cubs, 2-1, in the series opener on Friday night in the Bronx.
Jose Trevino came off the bench with two out in the 13th and ripped a walk-off single to left to give the Yankees the victory.

The Yankees finished 1-for-19 with runners in scoring position and left 17 on base but still found a way to pick up the win. Josh Donaldson had two of the team’s six hits.
Luis Severino started on the bump, and tossed six innings of one-run ball while striking out 10. The only run he allowed came in the fifth when Jason Heyward homered.
The bullpen did an outstanding job. Miguel Castro, Michael King, Clay Holmes, Clarke Schmidt, Wandy Peralta, and Ron Marinaccio all had scoreless outings.
The Yankees will go for the series win on Saturday night with Jordan Montgomery on the mound. The first pitch is slated for 7:15 p.m.
