The Cornell Big Red men’s lacrosse team fell to the Maryland Terrapins, 9-7, on Monday afternoon at Rentschler Field in the 2022 NCAA Championship game.
Cornell trailed 7-2 at the break but made things interesting in the second half by outscoring Maryland 5-2. However, it wasn’t enough as the Terrapins held on for the victory.
CJ Kirst led the Big Red with three points on two goals and an assist, while John Piatelli and Spencer Wirtheim notched two points. Michael Long, Blake Aiden, and Hugh Kelleher also chipped in with goals. Goalkeeper Chayse Ierlan made nine saves.
Maryland was led by Anthony DeMaio, who recorded five points on four goals and an assist. Goalie Logan McNaney made 17 saves.
Cornell finished the season with a 14-5 record, an Ivy League title, and as national runner-up for the fifth time in school history.
