The city of Auburn and the Auburn Doubledays have signed an agreement that will keep the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League team playing at Falcon Park through 2028.
Doubledays owners Don Lewis and Bob Ohman signed a five-year extension of the agreement that brought them to Auburn after Major League Baseball announced that Auburn would no longer host professional baseball.
The Doubledays met all corporate and season ticket sale goals in the 2021 season, and they now see an increase of 23% in season ticket sales. Moreover, the team has already sold out of some sponsorship inventory and has a waiting list for outfield advertising due to the local community’s support. On the field, the Doubledays went 26 and 19, which put them in the playoffs in their first season of play under Auburn Baseball, Inc. The Doubledays fell short in the 2021 league semi-finals in a one-game playoff against the Amsterdam Mohawks. With the 2022 season almost here, the Doubledays anticipate another great season at Falcon Park.
At a news conference Friday at Falcon Park, the Doubledays also announced a new mascot partner for the iconic Abner Doubleday.
Beginning with the summer 2022 season ‘Casey’ the Falcon will assist Abner Doubleday with mascot duties for Doubledays baseball games, as well as, other sporting events at both Falcon Park and Casey Park. The new Falcon Park facility is also home to the Cayuga Community College Spartans lacrosse, soccer, baseball, and softball programs. Along with Doubeldays baseball in the summer months, the facility also hosts high school sports and other sports tournaments and events throughout the spring and fall seasons.
The adjacent Casey Park facility features an Olympic-sized swimming pool, softball fields, tennis, basketball, and pickle ball courts, and a community ice arena. “Our new mascot Casey will be a great addition to the community-oriented feel of our facilities. Abner will concentrate on Doubledays baseball and Casey will appear at the other sporting and community events year-round. Casey will appear alongside Abner at Doubledays games as well. We hope for this new addition to be a lot of fun for our community” stated Mayor Quill.
It did not take Casey long to settle into the new Falcon Park facility. This summer, visitors to the stadium will find that Casey has already built a nest on the first base side deck. The public will get its first chance to see Casey in the upcoming Memorial Day parade held in downtown Auburn, Monday, May 30th beginning at 11 am. Casey will then join Abner at Falcon Park for the opening night of the 2022 Doubledays season against the Newark Pilots on Friday, June 3rd at 7:00 PM.
