Mets fall to Nationals, 8-3

The New York Mets fell to the Washington Nationals, 8-3, on Wednesday night at Nationals Park.

Tylor Megill got the start for New York and had his worst outing of the season. The right-hander lasted just 1.1 innings and allowed eight runs on eight hits while walking one.

The bullpen did an excellent job as Trevor Williams and Stephen Nogosek combined for 6.2 scoreless innings.

All three of New York’s runs came in the first. Starling Marte put the Mets on the board with a bunt single. One batter later, Pete Alonso crushed a two-run home run over the left-field wall.

The Mets had other opportunities to put some more runs on the board, but could not cash in.

Brandon Nimmo collected three hits in the loss while Luis Guillorme and Alonso also had multi-hit games.

The Mets will try to bounce back on Thursday afternoon and take two of three from the Nationals. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
