Stabbing in Penn Yan: Victim taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, suspect faces felony assault charges

Police say a stabbing investigation is underway in Penn Yan.

Andrew Schenk, 43, of Naples was arrested by police following the report of a stabbing behind a local business.

Upon arriving at the scene- they found a victim- who had suffered several lacerations and knife wounds. Officers and bystanders rendered first aid to the victim until the Penn Yan Ambulance team arrived.


The victim was transported to a hospital in Penn Yan- then sent to Strong Memorial Hospital due to the severity of their injuries.

Officers were advised at the scene that a verbal argument started between Schenk and the victim, as well as a third person. Schenk then left the scene prior to police arrival.

Police said Schenk also violated multiple protective orders during the incident, as he was in contact with a protected party.

He was taken into custody without incident at a separate location- and charged with first-degree assault, a Class B felony, as well as second-degree menacing, and three counts of criminal contempt.
