Van Bortel Automotive Group will break ground next week on a new six million dollar Corvette showroom on Route 31 in Macedon.
Vettes in the family blood
The Finger Lakes Times quotes company owner Kitty Van Bortel as saying the first car she bought after opening a used car dealership in the 1980s was a Corvette. Her father, Howard Van Bortel, once owned the biggest Corvette dealership in the world. After several years of not selling the brand, Van Bortel got back into the Corvette business with the purchase of the former McLouth Chevrolet dealership in 2013.
Van Bortel says the family has always enjoyed selling Corvettes and she says the demand for both new and used models is strong.
One of the largest Corvette dealerships in the US
She says she and her brother Howard will be opening the new 34,000 square foot showroom at 1338 Pittsford-Palmyra Road, with groundbreaking set for next Saturday at 3 p.m. The showroom will be able to house 100 Corvettes, making it one of the largest in the US. The Van Bortels expect to attract buyers from a wide area. The Wayne County Industrial Development Agency has approved a $1.6 million tax break for the project, which is expected to create ten new permanent jobs.
