Rochester Red Wings middle infielder Luis García was named International League Player of the Week on Monday.
García hit .519 (14-for-27) with a 1.370 OPS, five extra-base hits, five RBI and nine runs scored over six games from April 12-17. Three of his five RBI came in Sunday’s 8-1 victory over the Buffalo Bisons.
This is García’s second career Triple-A Player of the Week honor. Last season he was named Offensive Player of the Week.
García made his Major League debut in the COVID-shortened 2020 season with the Washington Nationals. The 21-year-old has appeared in 110 MLB games over the last two seasons and could potentially get called up soon if he continues to hit the cover off the baseball.
The Red Wings start a six-game series with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Tuesday night.
