The New York Mets made a roster move prior to Saturday’s game.
The team placed reliever Edwin Díaz on the bereavement list following the death of his grandfather and recalled starting pitcher David Peterson from the taxi squad.
It’s unknown how long Díaz will be out, but a stint on the bereavement list can be between three and seven days.
Adam Ottavino and Seth Lugo will likely share the closer role until Díaz returns.
Peterson struggled in 2021, finishing the year with a 5.54 ERA and 4.78 FIP in 66.2 innings over the course of fifteen starts for the Mets.
Díaz pitched on Opening Day, tossing a scoreless inning with a strikeout and a walk.
