Environmental advocates and public officials will rally against cryptocurrency mining today at the state Capitol.
On March 31, the DEC is expected to announce its decision on a permit renewal application filed by Greenidge Generation for its cryptocurrency mining operation on Seneca Lake in the town of Dresden. The group will urge Governor Kathy Hochul and the DEC to deny the permit.
In a news release, Seneca Lake Guardian said since China banned cryptocurrency mining, citing its adverse environmental impact, cryptocurrency operations are increasingly looking to set up in New York.
The rally will be held today at 11 a.m. in the War Room at the Capitol. The event will be live streamed on the Seneca Lake Guardian Facebook page.
