How do we know if it hasn’t been announced?

Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the CDC director said that they want to give people a break from wearing face masks. Read more about it here.

Walensky said, “we must consider hospital capacity as an additional important barometer. We want to give people a break from things like mask wearing when these metrics are better and then have the ability to reach for them again should things worsen.”

Current CDC guidelines suggest wearing masks indoors regardless of vaccination status. Several states have already changed their COVID-19 restrictions and masking rules.

Dr. Scott Gottlieb, the former commissioner of the FDA commented on why he thinks the CDC will update their guidelines soon.

Gottlieb said, “I think they’re going to make that adaptation because there clearly are parts of the country where prevalence is low enough now and heading in a positive direction that they can start lifting this mitigation.”
