In this episode, I talk with Ian Smith, the Seneca Watershed Steward, based at the Finger Lakes Institute at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
Ian had worked on water quality issues in other parts of the country. We talked about what brought him to the Finger Lakes. We also learned why reducing phosphorus in the lakes is so important. We also talked about the Lake Friendly Living and Lake Friendly Farming programs and how they’re helping.
Work is well underway on a 9 element plan of action for the Seneca and Keuka Lake watershed. We’ll hear about the plan, learn more about the Finger Lakes Institute and the Seneca Watershed Intermunicipal Organization, and find out what we can all do to be lake stewards.
