The Cayuga County Legislature has approved an emergency resolution to replace a crumbling seawall that borders Deauville Island in Emerson Park on Owasco Lake.
The county Legislature approved $50,000 to remove 360 feet of seawall on the island’s west side and build a new wall, according to The Citizen.
In the first week of January, a portion of the seawall collapsed, prompting a vote on the emergency resolution to fix it at the Legislature’s January 25 meeting. Legislators approved the project unanimously.
Andrew Dennison, chair of the Legislature’s Public Works Committee, said the project is easier to complete at this time of the year since Owasco Lake’s water levels are lowered for the winter.
Funding for the new seawall will come from the county’s general fund. The design plan for the wall was completed by the Cayuga County Soil & Water Conservation District.
