Leading up to the pandemic, many stores celebrated Black Friday by opening during the overnight or early in the morning.
As tradition went on, stores started opening during the day on Thanksgiving, trying to bring customers in early for some of the biggest sales they make during the year.
Now with the pandemic, many stores will remain closed for Thanksgiving Day so employees can stay home with their families, rest, and come in for the big rush on Black Friday during normal business hours.
This means stores within those properties like Bath and Body Works or Victoria’s Secret will remain closed.
As early as January of this year Target announced they would not be open Thanksgiving Day. Walmart followed suit in June of this year. Then Best Buy announced they would close during the holiday.
Stores like HomeGoods, Costco, Kohl’s and Macy’s will reopen on Black Friday.
Many companies are opting to rely on online sales during the holiday.
