How to go to college for free

The University of Akron is offering a new scholarship that makes college entirely free, if you meet the qualifications.

The scholarship will allow students who are eligible for the Pell Grant to receive four free years of school tuition free.

The Zips Affordability Scholarship covers what’s left after federal and state aid.

Students must file a FAFSA to see if they’re eligible for a Federal Pell Grant.

Students that are accepted to the school and eligible for the Pell Grant must also live in one of the six county’s in the school’s area, including Cuyahoga, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, and Wayne counties. If these requirements are all met then the student will get the scholarship.

Every year students need to fill out the FAFSA and keep a 2.0 GPA or higher, as well as remain eligible for the Pell Grant. Full time enrollment is also a requirement.

The scholarship is available for 8 semesters consecutively or a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first.

Anyone outside of the area who doesn’t qualify can receive a $3,000 Akron Advantage Award if they have a 3.0 GPA and a 20 ACT or 1020 SAT score.

Other means of financial aid are also available.
