Governor Kathy Hochul is using her past experience to help give local governments more control

Before Governor Kathy Hochul became New York State’s first female governor, she started her political career as an elected official on a town board in Western New York.

That plus her position as a county clerk later on, gives her a unique insight into how to handle the pandemic for the people in the state.

Other officials are praising her for her approach.

Local governments will be receiving $65 million to help promote the distribution of booster shots once the general public is allowed to get them.

Hochul plans to change how local governments are handled, and instead of forcing them to all be entirely under the rule of the state government, she plans to take a different approach.

She explained that after being with the people during her career, “in the trenches,” that she sees there is a place for state government and a place for local government.

Local governments will be able to ask the state government for expertise and help where it’s needed, and the state will continue to do its job for issues that go past county lines.
