Wendy’s ditches soggy drive-thru French fry with new ‘Hot and Crispy’ recipe

Wendy’s the fast food chain known for its witty social media accounts and ‘fresh’ burgers and chicken are taking on a new trope in the drive-thru business. Ever order French Fries only to find that within minutes they become soggy?

The company says it will address this with a brand new ‘Hot and Crispy’ recipe, which is designed to stay crisp long after leaving the drive-thru.

The chain announced the change on Friday, prompting a range of responses across the internet. The new recipe will launch in the fall, with locations across the U.S. tasting the new French fries in mid- to late- September.

“These fries are a cut above the rest – literally. One side is built for heat retention, and the other for crispiness,” Emily Kessler, senior specialist of culinary and innovation for Wendy’s said in a statement.

It has apparently taken years to develop a French fry that could stand up to drive-thru waits, but that could all be worth the payoff, if Wendy’s version lives up to the hype. In fact, the company said that it took four years to make the French fry a reality.

More than 20 different shapes were also tested before the final French fry design was given the green light. The last time Wendy’s French fries got an overhaul was in 2010.
