Wells College has secured much needed funding through a federal grant to help with water treatment plant improvements.
The Aurora college said that it had been granted a $1 million award through the Northern Border Regional Commission.
The 90-year-old system is in need of significant repairs and the grant money will go a long way to helping with correcting some of those outstanding issues. The system serves more than the campus itself. However, it’s maintained by the college.
Regulators said that the college’s DE filter system was in need of replacement. However, they couldn’t afford it. So, they sought the grant to help cover the costs.
The grant also means that residents of Aurora will not have to foot the bill through a tax increase, either.
