Woman suffers serious, life-threatening injuries after being struck by train in Palmyra

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a serious train vs. pedestrian accident in the town of Palmyra.

It happened around 9:13 p.m. on Friday when deputies were called to the intersection of Maple Avenue and Division Street.

Cheryl Daly, 53, of Palmyra was reportedly laying on the tracks when she was struck by an eastbound CSX freight train. Deputies say Daly was located under the train and extricated by law enforcement who provided medical attention until the arrival of fire and EMS.

Daly suffered a double-amputation of both lower extremities along with multiple contusions and abrasions, according to deputies. She was sent to Strong Memorial Hospital by ambulance for life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by Palmyra and Macedon police, Finger Lakes Ambulance, and Palmyra Fire Department.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation, deputies say.
