Last surviving charter member of Benton Fire Department honored for 65 years of service

George Newcomb of Benton, was recognized for 65 years of service to the Benton Fire Department as a volunteer on June 5th.

The organization of the Benton Fire Department happened at a meeting in 1955 where Newcomb was elected as 1st Assistant Chief at age 23. At age 88 he is the only surviving charter member of the Benton Fire Department.


Newcomb has been able to witness every milestone for the BFD including watching its growth. It is now one of the best equipped and fastest responding volunteer fire departments in the entire country.
