Deputies: 6-year-old airlifted after motorcycle collides with farm tractor in Bloomfield

Deputies say a 6-year-old was airlifted to a hospital in Rochester after a crash on Sand Road in Bloomfield.

According to the sheriff’s office the crash happened around 1:53 p.m. on Saturday. Deputies responded along with the West Bloomfield and Ionia fire departments for the report of a motorcycle-farm tractor crash.

Deputies say Blake Pickett, 34, of Lima attempted to pass a farm tractor, which was operated by a 15-year-old male, who was not identified. The pass was attempted in a no passing zone, according to deputies, who say that a collision occurred between Pickett’s motorcycle and the tractor when the second vehicle began turning left.

Pickett’s 6-year-old passenger, a Bloomfield resident, was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital. Pickett was transported by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Sand Road was closed between Olmstead and Taft roads for four hours as crews worked the scene. The investigation into the crash remains active.

Both Pickett and the 6-year-old are listed in stable condition at this time.
