Red Creek man convicted in Cayuga County bank robbery refuses to leave jail cell for sentencing

The Red Creek man who was convicted of attempting to rob a Cayuga County bank and burglarizing a nearby residence refused to leave his jail cell for sentencing on Tuesday.

The Citizen reports that Jason Ingleston, 43, was scheduled to be sentenced in Cayuga County Court, but the proceeding had to be postponed after he refused to participate.

His defense attorney, Rome Canzano, and Cayuga County Chief Assistant District Attorney Chris Valdina discussed options for how to proceed, but eventually agreed that they would not sentence without him being there.

The judge in the case said that he intends to issue an order that directs the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office to use force if needed to bring him to the courthouse for an in-person sentencing.

That’s scheduled for August 3.

All attorneys involved agreed that this was the best course of action.
