Two Community Service Awards were presented by the Walworth Historical Society on May 17 at Ginegaw Lodge.

Ray Welker Jr. was first to receive an award, a member of the West Walworth Fire Department for over 65 years. Judy Markowski touched on the different fire department position he has held throughout the years when presenting his award. He was also a U.S. Army veteran and active in 4-H. His wife Dorothy received the same award in 1995.

The second award was presented to Joyce Munger’s grandson, Avery Munger. Joyce passed away January 16, 2021 and for over 50 years Joyce shared her musical talent with many local churches. She worked at Mary Cariola’d Children’s Center in Rochester for years, volunteered and the Ontario Loan Closet, helped at Sodus Rehabilitation and volunteered for the Walworth Historical Society’s museum.

Officers were elected following the award presentations and the evening concluded with a short presentation by Walworth Town Historian and Wayne County Bicentennial Co-Chair Gene Bavis who provided updates on the county’s upcoming 2023 bicentennial celebration.
