Mets blow two late leads in extra-inning loss to Diamondbacks

May was a terrific month for the Mets, but June didn’t get off to quite the best start.

Edwin Díaz blew a save opportunity in the ninth inning, giving up a game-tying RBI single to Josh Rojas, as New York went on to lose, 6-5, to Arizona in 10 innings at Chase Field on Tuesday night. It was Díaz’s first blown save of the season after he had successfully converted his first nine opportunities.

James McCann put the Mets ahead, 5-4, with a pinch-hit leadoff RBI double in the top of the 10th, but right-hander Trevor May couldn’t close it out, giving up a walk-off two-run double to Josh Reddick in the bottom of the inning.

After going 17-9 last month, the Mets’ five-game winning streak was snapped in their first game of June.
