Police in Watkins Glen were dispatched to an altercation at an establishment on West Fourth St. in the village Sunday.
Now officers and employees of that establishment are being credited with successfully de-escalating a situation that could have been much worse.
Police say officers were called to an incident- and quickly detained a person who was showing a knife. Several people were involved in the incident.
Police conducted interviews with witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage- determining that many of the people involved were highly intoxicated.
A verbal altercation had started outside, with several patrons coming out into the parking lot when one of them displayed a knife.
Police say that the quick action of employees to call 911, as well as fast response from law enforcement resulted in there being no injuries.
Those involved in the altercation opted to not press charges.
