Police say an Auburn teen was killed in a stabbing in the city of Syracuse.
The Syracuse Police Department reports that Naj’ee Wright, 13, of Auburn was killed by an unidentified 16-year-old girl from Syracuse.
The stabbing took place a little before 6 p.m. on West Onondaga St. She was taken to Upstate Hospital, but pronounced dead later that night.
Police said the 16-year-old was charged with first-degree manslaughter and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
At this point, she’s being held at a juvenile detention center in Erie County.
The investigation remains active.
Officials said Wright was a student at Auburn Junior High School.
Superintendent Jeff Pirozzolo said his thoughts and condolences went out to the entire family and community. “The district’s crisis team will be available to offer support for students, families and employees. If you feel your child needs to speak to a counselor or another member of our crisis team, please do not hesitate to call the main office of your child’s school to let us know,” he added.
