Prior to the nightcap of Wednesday’s doubleheader with the St. Louis Cardinals, the Mets placed outfielder Brandon Nimmo on the 10-day Injured List, retroactive to May 3 with a left index finger bone bruise.
The Mets recalled catcher Patrick Mazeika from Triple-A Syracuse, who is active for game two.
Nimmo injured his finger on Saturday, as he left the game against the Phillies after fouling a ball away. The Mets elected not to put Nimmo on the IL right away, as the team performed some more tests to see if Nimmo would be available to start or come off the bench on Wednesday.
Rojas had previously said that Nimmo was improving, as he was swinging a bat prior to Tuesday’s rainout, but after more testing done on Wednesday, the team moved the outfielder to the IL.
Nimmo has been terrific at the top of the order for the Mets this season, slashing .318/.430/.439 with one home run, eight RBI, and seven runs scored.
