In most school districts there is a walking requirement, which is to say that if you live between 2-3 miles of the building you’re educated at- transportation is not provided by bus.
That could be changing in Hammondsport, as school officials tell Finger Lakes News Radio that they could transport all students without an impact on the budget.
This spring they will be asking voters to decrease the transportation limit for all students from 2-miles if they’re K-8 or 3-miles for grades 9-12 to zero.
Superintendent Kyle Bower says there wouldn’t be an impact on the budget, so it would be a win-win.
