State misses deadline for drafting new budget: Lawmakers will have to work through Easter

The state budget has missed the deadline.

Lawmakers will now likely be working through the Easter Weekend trying to come up with a final deal, which would allow for funding the following year’s activities.

While legalizing marijuana was a major non-budget item- mobile sports betting, as well as tax increases on the wealthiest New Yorkers were also major issues. A handful of environmental and educational issues also muddied the waters.

It’s unclear how soon a budget might be approved.
