Republican lawmakers have countered the proposal by President Joe Biden and Democrats to hand out $1,400 stimulus checks to Americans making less than $75,000.
The Republican proposal would come with a significantly smaller price tag overall, and only send out $1,000 stimulus checks to those who make less than $50,000 per year. Anyone who makes over $40,000 would receive a smaller stimulus check than those who make under that threshold.
The two plans come at significantly different price tags. The proposal by Democrats would cost $1.9 trillion. While the Republican counter would cost around $600 billion.
It’s worth noting that couples who make between $80,000 and $100,000 per year would not receive a full-stimulus under the Republican proposal.
At this point it’s unclear how President Biden and Democrats will move forward.
