Yankees’ Luke Voit named one of MLB’s Top 25 biggest breakout stars of 2020

After a stellar season with the Yankees, Luke Voit was named one of MLB’s Top 25 biggest breakout stars of 2020, landing at No. 13 on an MLB.com list of players.

Voit had the best season of his career last year despite a shortened schedule. The 29-year-old crushed a career-high 22 home runs that led the majors, slashed .277/.338/.610 and finished with 62 RBI.

He came into the 2020 season noticeably slimmer, having shed 13 pounds during quarantine, but that clearly didn’t take away anything from his power.

The Yankees were lucky to have Voit’s offense throughout the season as Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, DJ LeMahieu and Gio Urshela missed a combined 96 games, and Gary Sanchez and Gleyber Torres struggled.

Despite all this, with Voit’s help, the Yankees made the postseason.

Though it’s a bit hard to compare someone’s rise when the sample size between seasons is off, but Voit needed just 56 games in 2020 to pass his 2019 HR mark of 21, despite playing 62 more games that year.

Voit came in ninth in AL MVP voting for his efforts in 2020, and looks to be a big part of the Yankees future.
