Sheriff Kevin Henderson says a Brighton man died in a fatal crash on County Road 25 at County Road 27.
It happened in the town of Phelps around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday when James Carey, 28, of Brighton was traveling west on County Road 25 when he went off the road.
His vehicle collided with a number of trees off the road. He was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Sheriff Henderson says Carey was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of teh crash, which still is under investigation.
Speed and alcohol appear not to be factors, according to Henderson. A portion of County Road 25 was shut down for approximately four hours while investigation took place.
New York State Police assisted at the scene.
