Police say a 24-year-old is in custody after a rape investigation in the city of Auburn on Sunday.
Around 10:26 a.m. police were dispatched to the area of Holley Street for the report of a female walking down the road in a bath robe and bare feet while a male followed her.
The report indicated that the male was also holding a butcher’s knife.
Police located the female at a residence on Seymour Street. she thought the suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Brian Lawrence entered the victim’s apartment by taking a key from another person without permission, then attacking her.
The victim made her way out of the apartment after the attack and started walking down Holley Street looking for help.
Police located a knife near where Lawrence was ultimately taken into custody. He was charged with first-degree rape and second-degree criminal trespass. He was held on no bail.
The Auburn Police Department advised the public in a press release that there was no risk to the public at this time. They referred to this incident as an isolated one.
