Three charged with burglary in Weedsport after foot chase

Sheriff Brian Schenck reports that on Monday at 4:05 PM the Cayuga County E-911 Center took a call reporting a suspicious person in the area of the former Old Erie Restaurant in the Village of Weedsport. Sheriff’s road patrol units responded along with units from the New York State Police. When units arrived on scene they found several individuals fleeing the area on foot. Two suspects were quickly taken into custody and a third was identified and located later.

Robert A.Hawkey (18) of 2309 Mills Road, Weedsport was charged with Burglary in the third degree and Petit Larceny. Jason L. Kirby (19) of 2797 Earl Street, Weedsport was charged with Burglary in the third degree. Both Hawkey and Kirby were processed and held at the Cayuga County Jail awaiting centralized arraignment. Both were released after that court proceeding. A third suspect who is 16 years old was charged as an Adolescent Offender and arraigned by Cayuga County Court, Youth Part and released.
