Officials in the town of Canandaigua say that no personal information was compromised – but they were hit by computer hackers.
Town Manager Doug Finch told Finger Lakes News Radio that no personal information was compromised, but that the hackers attempted to lock data in exchange for money.
The hack was executed through a phishing scheme. Only the main network was attacked. This includes planning documents, resolutions, and other generally public information.
Finch told FLNR that the ransom will not be paid.
