Keuka College reports nearly 50 active COVID-19 cases, goes remote for next two weeks

On Monday there were 14 new positive COVID-19 tests at Keuka College. It’s something that has some in the Yates County area worried about. In total, the College is reporting that 48 students and one employee are actively testing positive.

“We continue to investigate a cluster of cases at Keuka College with 10 new cases received today. Keuka College has 12 total cases to date. We are working closely with the Administration and the Health Center. We will provide an update tomorrow as we continue to our investigation and contact tracing efforts,” Deputy Director of Public Health Sara Christensen said last week when the outbreak was first detected.

Keuka was moving to a distance-learning model late last week, which went into effect on Monday. That period was going to last two weeks.

Meanwhile, adult and online education classes are staying online for the remainder of the semester.

As for Yates County, the COVID-19 dashboard notes that there are a total of 91 cases, with 121 people in quarantine. One person is hospitalized, with seven others having lost their life to the virus.

Out of the cases being reported by Yates County Public Health only 23 are in residents between 20- and 29-years-old.
