IRS extends deadline to get $500 bonus for children in CARES Act

On Friday the Internal Revenue Service said that families who failed to claim the $500 per child stimulus payment authorized in the CARES Act was extended.

The IRS is encouraging recipients eligible for the $500 bonus to use the ‘Non-Filers tool’ which allows for easy submission of dependents.

The new window will run through September 30th.

Applicants who received the $1,200 stimulus payment by direct deposit will receive the $500 payment the same way, while others will be sent a check.

Eligible recipients include people with qualifying children who receive Social Security retirement, survivor or disability benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Railroad Retirement benefits and Veterans Affairs Compensation and Pension (C&P) benefits and did not file a tax return in 2018 or 2019.
