String of armed robberies under investigation in Ithaca; three reported over the weekend, one person in custody

Police are not saying whether an armed robbery that occurred at the Hilton Garden Inn on Saturday around 7:35 p.m. is connected to a second or third reported incident in Ithaca over the weekend.

The second armed robbery was reported at 3:29 a.m. on Sunday at the A-Plus Gas Station location South Cayuga Street.

IPD reports that the victim was working the cash register at the time of the robbery. A subject is said to have entered the store, walked around for a short time, then approached the cashier.

They displayed a handgun and demanded money. The cashier followed the suspect’s directions and was not injured in the incident.

The suspect was described as a young, dark-skinned male of heavier stature, wearing what was believed to be a bandana over the lower part of his face, as well as a beanie, long sleeved green shirt, khaki shorts, and white sneakers.

IPD reports that a third armed robbery was reported around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday at a convenience store in the 200 block of North Meadow Street.

Allen Forrest, 40, of Lansing was charged with first-degree robbery. That arrest took place due to information and evidence that was immediately available to responding patrol officers.

IPD said that four other recent armed robberies – including those at the Hilton Garden Inn and A-Plus Gas Station – remain under investigation. It’s unclear if they are linked.

No additional information was available, and police are asking for the public’s help in those investigations.
