On Monday, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the Finger Lakes region would begin opening on Friday.
Congressman Tom Reed and a group of state Republican lawmakers will gather in Greece to talk about what’s next. That group wants the focus to be on the public health crisis, and not on the prescribed economic zones set out by New York State.
Specifically, they want to see collaboration across the region, rather than population centers dictating terms.
Gov. Cuomo says his approach addresses that issue.
“The local governments have to be in communications with each other,” he said Monday. “We do this on a regional basis. There are a number of counties in that region, but it’s one region and this virus doesn’t respect county borders or state borders. Those governments have to be in contact with each other.”
State Senators Rich Funke, Joe Robach and Pam Helming will join Assemblymembers Brian Kolb, Kevin Byrnes, and Brian Manktelow. A news conference is slated for 11 a.m.
