J.C. Penney expected to file for bankruptcy this week, close about 212 stores

J.C. Penney is preparing for bankruptcy.

A report by Reuters suggests that the troubled department store chain could file as soon as next week.

The Coronavirus Pandemic has made an already-grim situation significantly worse for retailers like Macy’s and J.C. Penney.

The report says upwards of 212 stores will be shut down. That’s approximately 25% of its fleet.

It’s unclear if any local stores will be impacted by the closures.

J.C. Penney operates locations in Auburn, Canandaigua, Syracuse, Cortland, and Victor.
