URMC says furloughs are coming; unclear where the cuts will be made

It’s not clear where, or how at this point, but furloughs are coming to the University of Rochester Medical Center.

In a statement released Tuesday, Dr. Mark Taubman, URMC president and CEO, pointed to the furloughs as an economic reality during the COVID-19 pandemic.

They could begin as early as May 10th.

The goal at this point is for most employees to return in three or four months.

“We would never ask our workforce to make this sacrifice unless it was absolutely necessary,” Taubman said.
