Cayuga County approves change for employees working through pandemic

When the Cayuga County Ways & Means Committee met digitally, they approved an increase to the maximum hours of non-union employees can work.

It will also allow them to take time off at a later date for it.

A number of employees have reached maximums in the Health Department, and others which have been stressed during the pandemic.

The rule change allows for flexibility among those employees.

Chairperson Aileen McNabb-Coleman addressed these employees during the meeting.

“This is a way to compensate them for a lot of these people’s kind of extreme overtime hours. I think every department has been touched by COVID,” McNabb-Coleman said.

While they aren’t paid overtime, any overtime hours they work are converted to time off that can be taken at a later date. This approval changes the maximum.
