Owasco suspends brush dumping at site after DEC critique

The town of Owasco has temporarily suspended its hours for dumping brush and leaves at the recycling center, following a DEC order and extensive use.

Town Supervisor Ed Wagner tells The Auburn Citizen that operating on a schedule will help the town come into compliance with cleanup orders by the DEC.

There is wetlands near the site.

The change also came amid the coronavirus pandemic, which raised concerns about proximity of individuals at the site.

Owasco residents only can use the brush drop off feature. Part of the reason that a schedule was initiated was due to people other than residents using it.
