Wayne County Democratic Committee gathers signatures for 2020 elections

Each year, local representatives of the Democratic Party in Wayne County gather signatures from enrolled Democrats for local, regional and state political candidates.

Every other year, they also circulate petitions to designate two Democratic Committee representatives in each election district. With the state primary coming early in June, signature gathering was set for February and March.

“With the coronavirus, the Governor issued an executive order to have all petitions filed early by 5 p.m. on March 17th,” said County Democratic chairman Mark Alquist. “This shortened the petition signing period by about three weeks for committee members. Our committee members shifted into high gear, and all required signatures were filed by the deadline. We appreciate the support of fellow Democrats throughout our county who helped by signing our petitions.”

Petitions were filed for Democratic congressional candidates Dana Balter and Francis Conole for NY-24, for Scott Comegys for the 130th Assembly District, state representatives Morris and Tricia Owen, for delegates and alternates the 7th Judicial District Nominating Convention and for county and town committee representatives.

The Wayne County Democratic Committee supports candidates who will fight to bring more jobs and better infrastructure to our area. Our candidates are committed to using fair government for increased economic development and the safety of our communities.
