NYSEG and RG&E are warning customers about potential scams.
Both companies say they have received reports of people going door-to-door attempting to scam households.
Phone calls have also been reported, some of which threaten a cut to service if not paid through a prepaid debit card system.
Companies noted that these calls are scams. And to not give any personal information out over the phone.
They also say that legitimate company employees and contractors will have photo ID and employee numbers on them, and to not click on links displayed in suspicious emails.
